Square Enix moves to combat "extremely long wait times"

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has seen such strong demand that Square Enix has had to stop digital download sales until the servers are expanded, it says.

The company posted the notice on its Facebook page, informing those wanting to play that it has had to place a temporary halt on sales, due to overwhelming demand.

Sales will continue once the server capacity has been expanded to accommodate the large number of people wanting to play, the notice says.

Square Enix notes that "due to the overwhelmingly positive response to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play." In order to fix the issue, at least in the short term, it has placed a hold on sales.

Important Notice About FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn - Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN's digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launched today for PS3 and PC. It was confirmed at E3 2013 it will also see a PS4 release in 2014.
