In January, Rockstar delayed the GTA 5 release date from spring 2013 to September 17 worldwide on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Explaining the move, it said: "The only reason we've delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be."

CVG sources have indicated that GTA 5 is set to break UK sales records. Take-Two will allocate three million copies for the UK alone, giving it scope to outstrip the fastest selling UK game ever, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Earlier this year CVG visited Rockstar to see the game in action, and delivered an in-depth Grand Theft Auto 5 preview.
