Sony trademarks The Order: 1886

Speculation points to new IP from Killzone studio Guerrilla Games

Sony has filed a US trademark application for "The Order: 1886" for use with "computer game software" and "video game software."

Last month, PlayStation's European arm also filed a trademark application for "The Order" with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property.

Eagle-eyed NeoGAF users who spotted the applications point out that Benelux is a union of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and that Netherlands-based Sony studio Guerrilla Games has been working on a new IP for years.

In November 2011, Edge reported that the studio's new IP is being headed up by former Killzone game director Mathijs de Jonge.

Guerrilla is also making Killzone Shadow Fall, which Sony is targeting as a PS4 launch game.

Sony revealed PS4 in February, when it confirmed a PS4 release date of "holiday 2013" in at least one of Japan, Europe and the US.
