2K confirms 'evolved' XCOM FPS reveal

Marin studio has "refined" its vision for the game

2K Marin has confirmed it will unveil an "evolution" of its previously announced XCOM shooter in "a matter of days".

The developer wrote on the 2K blog: "The XCOM universe is expanding. In the coming days the world will get a fresh look at the long-awaited squad-based tactical shooter in development at 2K Marin."

The studio said that the game has "undergone an evolution" since its last public showing at E3 2011, probably influenced by the success of Firaxis' turn-based strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which 2K says has "reignited the classic franchise".

The developer added: "2K's culture allows our studios the freedom to refine their visions, to explore new ideas, and to deliver the best possible experiences for players. Through this exploration, 2K Marin has refined their vision, and as a result the game has evolved into a high-stakes narrative experience imbued with core XCOM concepts."

The title's release had been in question after it suffered a string of delays following its announcement in 2010. Recently, publisher 2K removed the XCOM shooter's official site and it was rumoured that the game had been rebranded as The Bureau.

A teaser trailer released earlier this week suggests 2K will reveal its rebranded XCOM shooter on April 26.
