Luftrausers dev appeals to Apple/Google over 'SkyFar' clone

"We simply can't deal with the stress of another cloned game," says Vlambeer

Dutch indie developer Vlambeer has said it's reaching out to Apple and Google in appeal over 'SkyFar', a recently-released game accused of being a clone of Vlambeer's Luftrausers.

Vlambeer's upcoming game, Luftrausers.

Vlambeer's Rami Ismail has told Polygon he's been in touch with both firms following the release of the iOS and Android versions of SkyFar, developed by RubiqLab.

The issue came to light today when Vlambeer and Luftrausers fans sounded off via Twitter over the alarming similarities between Luftrausers - due this spring for PC, Mac, Linux, PS3 and Vita - and SkyFar, which hit iOS and the Google App Store on APril 10 for $0.99.

This will be the second time Vlambeer finds itself locked in a battle with an alleged clone, after its previous game Radical Fishing - eventually renamed 'Ridiculous Fishing' - was beaten to market by 'Ninja Fishing', which shared numerous near-identical features.

"We obviously endured a bit of a scare when news arrived of LUFTRAUSERS being cloned and released ahead of our own release schedule by another developer," Ismail told Polygon today. "This time, however, it's not 'just' the idea of the game that has been cloned, but also the visual style. This gives us much more room to fight the whole thing, and we fully intend to."

Accused clone, SkyFar.

Ismail says RubiqLab has been in touch with him to claim that its game is not a clone. "Acttuly we genrated our assets, Codes and all newly [sic]," RubiqLab reportedly told Ismail. It went on to claim that the game as indicated in screenshots "is not there in game as in the screen shots. We just done those screnshots for public attraction [sic]", and that "we really dont think it links your game at all [sic]."

RubiqLab has, in the minutes leading up to the publication of this report, pulled a SkyFar trailer from its YouTube channel.

Ismail said, "We simply can't deal with the stress of another cloned game, so we've gotten in touch with Apple and Google to see if there is a way for for the issue to be resolved without us getting involved in yet another clone war."

Here's a trailer for Luftrausers, followed by a gameplay video for SkyFar.
