SimCity dated for Mac, free for PC owners and vice versa

Game to be exclusively available as an Origin download

EA has confirmed a Mac SimCity release date of June 11.

The publisher said today that the game will be exclusively available as an Origin download.

Fans who buy the game will be able to play it on Mac and PC and access their cities across both platforms, regardless of which version they own. Existing PC owners will be able to download their free Mac copy on release.

Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of EA's Maxis Label, said: "SimCity is coming to Mac on June 11 and one purchase will give you both the Mac and PC versions. You only need to buy SimCity once to play together across the same servers, regardless of which version you're playing.

"We didn't want to make any compromises when it came to the Mac so we created a native version that is optimized for the hardware and OSX."

Maxis also confirmed today that it has reinserted the fastest gameplay mode, known as Cheetah Speed, to SimCity. Additionally, it said it's hard at work on SimCity update 2.0.
