Rod Fergusson quitting Irrational Games

VP of development in the process of departing from BioShock Infinite dev

Rod Fergusson has confirmed he is leaving BioShock Infinite developer Irrational Games.

The former Gears of War producer quit Epic and joined Irrational as VP of development on BioShock Infinite. With that game shipped, Fergusson says he's "done what I set out to do here".

Speaking to Polygon, Fergusson explained, "During my departure from Epic, I learned that Irrational was in need of a 'closer' to help finish BioShock Infinite.

"I've been striving for better storytelling in the games I've worked on and I saw this as a great opportunity to learn from Ken and his team on how to build a truly story-driven game."

He went on, "I am very proud of the work that I did and of the team and what they were able to accomplish on Infinite. Now with the game shipped successfully, I've done what I set out to do here and now I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life and career."

Fergusson's next move is yet to be determined.

His addition to the BioShock Infinite dev team came amidst reports of turbulence at the studio over the game's development.

The game released on March 26 to widespread critical acclaim, scoring a 9.1/10 in CVG's praising BioShock Infinite review.
