Independent Games Festival award winners announced

Cart Life takes out grand prize

The 2013 Independent Games Festival winners have been announced in San Francisco, and Cart Life is the winner.

The awards were presented by Monaco programmer and designer Andy Schatz. In his opening speech, Schatz noted how huge changes in the industry have repositioned the independent scene in recent years.

"It's a lot harder to be counter-culture when the system we're fighting actually likes us now," he said.

Richard Hofmeier, who maintained a nervous silence during his acceptance of the Nuovo and Excellence in Narrative awards, thanked his family and the fiction group that encouraged him to turn his story into a game. "I got a little more booze in me so I might be a bit more vebose this time around," he said.
