Team Ninja split in two amidst Tecmo Koei restructuring initiative

Japanese firm undergoing restructure, Ninja Gaiden dev among those affected

Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive developer Team Ninja has been split into two separate teams, Tecmo Koei has announced.

The well respected development studio now consists of two groups; Ichigaya Development Group 1 and Ichigaya Development Group 2, according to the announcement (translation via Siliconera).

Current Team Ninja lead, Yosuke Hayashi, will head up Ichigaya Development Group 1, while Fatal Frame producer Keisuke Kikuchi will take control of the second team.

The changes come as Tecmo Koei undergoes a corporate restructuring process, says the firm.

It's unclear how the split will affect Team Ninja's development pipeline, or if the groups will be working on a singular or separate projects.

Team Ninja latest release, Ninja Gaiden 3, arrived on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012 and has since been ported to Wii U with enhancements in the form of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

Razor's Edge is due to make the jump back to PS3 and Xbox on April 11 with even more additional content.
