The Wii U version is being co-developed by Mass Effect Wii U studio Straight Right, and promises to deliver "a full slate" of GamePad features including touch-screen hacking, interactive map editing, augmented sniping, grenade throwbacks and "many other neural hub enhancements."

The Director's Cut will include the entire Missing Link DLC chapter and pre-order mission Tongs's Rescue.

More interesting for fans are that the game's highly criticised boss fights have been "overhauled," alongside general balance and combat refinements, "improved AI" and "striking visual improvements," says Square Enix.

The new version also provides access to Half-Life-style developer commentaries and in-game guides, as well as a New Game+ mode.

Speaking in the next issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, exec game director Jean-François Dugas claims that the Wii U version isn't a simple port.

"The first thing we said when we decided to make a version for the Wii U was that we didn't want to do a port. That's really important," he explained.

"It was not about 'oh yes, just put it on there and that's the end of the story,' that would have been disrespectful for the fans and it would have been disrespectful for the Nintendo fans.

"For us, it was important that we were envisioning an ultimate version in which a lot of modifications would be made, and also lots of new content would be added as well.

"So it was important to find a company that would think like us and would want to go the extra mile to make this version the ultimate version of the game."
