Microsoft says a number of sign-up pages claiming to be offering the chance to test the next Xbox are fakes.
Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, director of programming for Xbox Live, took to Twitter to advise users not to provide any details to said websites.
Confirmed: All sign-up pages for testing the "next Xbox" are FAKE. Do not give them your information - it's a scam.— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) March 13, 2013
It has become a growing expectation in the industry that Microsoft will announce its next-generation Xbox platform at a special event in late April.
It has also been claimed that the next Xbox will require an internet connection to function and block the use of second-hand games.
