Series reboot seemingly off to a strong start at retail

Over a million people have played the new Tomb Raider since the game launched on Tuesday, according to a Square Enix representative.

Karl Stewart, global brand manager at the game's developer Crystal Dynamics, suggested the title is off to a strong start at retail, tweeting:

"Wow, 1m gamers playing in less than 48hrs! @tombraider fans, you're AMAZING Hearing some stores are running low..more copies are on the way!"

In our Tomb Raider review, we described the game as "violent, scary, ambitious and inventive". The series reboot has been well received by other critics too - see what they thought in our Tomb Raider review round-up.

Earlier this week, Square Enix revealed the first batch of Tomb Raider DLC. Featuring three new multiplayer arenas to fight it out in, the Caves & Cliffs map pack will launch on March 19 as a timed Xbox 360 exclusive.

And it was also recently revealed that Crystal Dynamics is working with production company GK Films (The Departed, Rango and Hugo) to develop a new Tomb Raider movie.
