Grand Theft Auto 5 release date delayed to September 17

Game to miss 'spring' target - due for launch on PS3 and Xbox 360

Rockstar Games has confirmed that the Grand Theft Auto V release date is set for September 17 - several months later than its advertised 'spring' target.

The game will be released internationally on Xbox 360 and PS3. It is not clear if PC or next generation versions are presently in development.

An explanation for the new September release date - thought to be the second major such delay to the game - was not given.

Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser said the latest entrant in the GTA series will boast the "deepest, most beautiful and most immersive world yet".

"We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months," he added.

Set in the fictional city of Los Santos (a city parodying Los Angeles), Grand Theft Auto V is said will blend storytelling and gameplay "in new ways" with players switching between three key protagonists who together create an intricate story.
