Epic Games has established a new Maryland, US-based development studio called Impossible Studios.
Founded in June, Impossible consists of former employees of Big Huge Games, creators of the Rise of Nations strategy games, Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
The studio is "comprised of highly skilled, senior-level game development talent... with heralded roots in real-time strategy and role-playing entertainment software", according to the official announcement.
Its first project is a collaboration with fellow Epic subsidiary Chair on Infinity Blade: Dungeons for iOS.
Impossible studio director Sean Dunn said: "Epic has truly embraced this stellar collection of developers who were displaced by the closing of Big Huge Games."
Epic president Michael Capps added: "We were so glad we could help keep this great team together, and we're lucky to have them. Pairing the imagination and experience of Impossible with Epic's technology, IP and resources makes for a business greater than the sum of its parts."
