We've been burned by buying new consoles and handhelds at launch more times than we'd care to mention.
If our experiences with the Nintendo 3DS have taught us anything it's that we should exercise temperance on our excitement for shiny new handhelds. If only so we can continue to live under an actual roof made of tiles and eat more than just beans on toast for the month.
Almost everyone on team CVG purchased a Nintendo 3DS at launch, and they've spent more time gathering dust in bags and closets than they have in our hands, playing games. Eight months after release the arrival of Super Mario 3D Land has seen a resurgence in its popularity.
We're not bitter. We don't even regret buying the handheld, but in hindsight it would have been much smarter to wait for a while. We would have spent much less on the hardware and also had more than just a few shoddy launch titles to play.
With the release of Sony's PlayStation Vita we are, predictably, considering whether or not the handheld is worth purchasing at launch.
Earlier this week Sony Europe confirmed its first-party launch line-up of titles for the PlayStation Vita and there are a few that we're having trouble resisting.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss is undoubtedly the headline act in its line-up, and having just come down off an incredible Uncharted 3 high, we're jonesing for another hit.
Along with a portable Uncharted we're eager to put the Vita's dual thumbsticks through its paces with shooter Resistance: Burning Skies, see how fighting games fare on the handheld with Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and even dabble in some augmented reality shenanigans with Reality Fighters.
A few of the Vita's features have caught our attention too. In particular the rumored remote play feature that will allow all PlayStation 3 games to be be playable on Vita.
We're interested in hearing what you guys plan to do. Will you be purchasing the Vita on day one, if so what game are you itching to play? Or are you planning to wait it out?
