Thieves, murderers, terrorists and riot leaders: to the law they're the lowest of the low, but to us they're the shining hope of PlayStation's most oppressive worlds - yes, even the, er, cel-shaded raccoon.
While rarely quite as complex as The Wire, in the world of gaming the law-abiding citizens aren't always in the right and the criminals aren't necessarily the evil folk the virtual governments would have us think. Here are the outlawed PS icons with the biggest bounties on their heads.
Game Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Abe's Exoddus
Born into the life of a factory worker, Mudokon Abe is wanted for breaching multiple slave ownership licenses as well as terrorist actions linked to the closure of the RuptureFarms meat processing factory and the Soulstorm Brewery plant.
In reality he was just saving his own kind. The gangly hero is easily recognised by his sewn-up mouth and frequent flatulence issues as well as an urge to rebel against authority.
The ability to possess Sligs means a P45 is winging its way to the genius board member who decided to fill the factory guard ranks with, yes, Sligs; it's like the CEO Glukkons
wanted him to escape as an excuse for Mudokon sport killings.
Reward for capture: A year's worth of Mudokon Pops.
Game: Final Fantasy VII/Before Crisis
Eco-terrorists AVALANCHE are a long-running
collection of like-minded individuals sworn to protect Gaia.
Formerly run by Elfe and Sears and home to the genetically enhanced Raven battle squad, AVALANCHE was last monitored under the helm of Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart and Barret Wallace.
It's been claimed AVALANCHE disbanded after the death of members Biggs, Wedge and Jessie when Midgar's Sector 7 collapsed but even if that were the case the surviving members still need to be brought to justice.
What Shinra doesn't want you to know is that their actions kept the planet from dying.
Reward for capture: An all-expenses-paid trip to Gold Saucer with unlimited Gold Points.
Game: Beyond Good & Evil
Under the guise of a credited photojournalist, Jade infiltrated restricted government research facilities, took snaps of top secret experiments and even supplied resistance terrorist cell IRIS Network with government security plans.
Does it matter that the ruling Alpha Sections are in cahoots with attacking alien forces DomZ and are facilitators to the abduction and brainwashing of its citizens? Of course not.
This is an Orwellian future we're talking about. Jade is a heroine to the people of Hillys but demonised by the Alpha Sections' department of social affairs.
Reward for capture: 88 pearls.
Game: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus/Sly 2: Band of Thieves/Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Sly Cooper stole from the rich
and lined his own pockets, but did it with a wink and a smile.
The rapacious raccoon and his furtive friends Bentley (turtle) and Murray (hippopotamus), plus other one-time Cooper Gang members, are officially on the run from Interpol agent Carmelita Fox although a will they/ won't they romance between her and Sly raises the issue of nepotism.
