Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow

A completely different game to the PSP

Seen the film? Then play the game that's not exactly about the film, but it's got Johnny Depp in it, which is close enough. The idea is that it's follows the plot of the first movie, but is 'retold' and 'embellished' by the fertile Sparrow imagination. Clever, but the developers last effort was last year's Fantastic Four, which had a title that was only 50% accurate. As you might expect from a game based on a pirate action film, this is a swashbuckling slasher with a healthy number of different moves. The characters develop their skills as they progress and there's a co-op play option. It's all there, including boss battles and puzzles - they've made a list and followed it to the letter.

But the end result is crap. However many characters, moves or bosses might be in the game, if the core game action is so dull that a little bit of your soul dies every time you play, what's the point? It's just relentless button mashing with no variation. Bury this hollow, by numbers spin off and mark it with not with a cross but with a big fat forty seven.
